Happy Holidays!

December - 2013

With the holidays nearing, many residents and business owners alike are preparing for the holidays and tending to their shopping. Unfortunately, thieves are also busy shopping during the month of December and looking to see what they can steal from you! When leaving your home, please make sure that all porches, entrances and yards are well illuminated and ensure that all windows and doors are locked at all times. Please do not hide house keys inside of mailboxes, planters or underneath door mats and find an unpredictable place to hide your valuable items.

While shopping during the holiday season, please make sure to be aware of your surroundings. Please make every effort to park in well-lit areas and avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Consider bringing only the credit cards you plan to use while holiday shopping. Never leave your vehicle unoccupied with the engine running. When doing your shopping, make every effort to shop during daylight hours and be aware of strangers approaching you for no reason, as this time of year “con-artists” try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings.

The Marysville Police Department offers vacation house security checks for when residents are away from their homes for extended periods of time. This service is offered free of charge and residents and business owners can submit for a vacant house/business security check by calling into or coming down to the responding police department during regular business hours.

During the holiday season, your Marysville Police Department will have officers in both marked and unmarked vehicles while patrolling residential and shopping areas in town to help make the holidays safe for residents, merchants and shoppers, while also deterring thieves of their holiday shopping agenda.

Please celebrate responsibly this holiday season by not drinking and driving. With the assistance of allied agencies through our "Avoid The 9" DUI enforcement grant, the Marysville Police Department will be launching an aggressive DUI enforcement campaign through the holiday season. Consisting of extra patrols and checkpoints this enforcement period is aimed at removing intoxicated drivers from our streets and keeping our roadways safe.

On behalf of the Marysville Police Department, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Holiday season!
